Home Design: 7 Tips for Interior Design on a Budget

Table of Contents

Being strapped for cash doesn’t mean your home has to look unloved. This quick article is here to give you the interior home design tips and tricks that you need to spruce up and revitalise your home without spending a fortune.

1. Spring Cleaning

This first bit of advice won’t cost a cent! All you need to do is declutter. This is easier said than done, especially if you are attached to the stuff piling up around your home. Be strong! Decide what can be stored out of sight and what is better suited elsewhere. Removing clutter brings out the features of your home. If decluttering is not an option, organising or storing clutter in a creative way can add a healthy dose of charm.

2. Pick and Move

Like we mentioned above, some stuff would love to live in a different room. Moving furniture and decor from place to place can do wonders for reinventing your home. Be sure to empty your cupboards and find any hidden decor gems. Having furniture and decor in places they weren’t originally meant for shakes things up. Try put a bookshelf in the kitchen, use a speaker as a side table and put your repurposing powers to use.

3. Paint Away

Applying a lovely new coat of paint can enhance a room. It can create an effect that makes a room feel special and stand out to your guests. Don’t stop at the walls because ceilings, doors and even floorboards are a potential canvas. Try cooler colours for a relaxing atmosphere and warmer colours for an engaging one.

4. Small Details and Accessories

You can inexpensively reinvent a space by changing small details. How about some new knobs for drawers? A different soap dish in the bathroom? Or handles, light switches and sockets that suit your look and feel. Accessories pack a lot of personality and can be used in a collection to fill and lift a space. You’d be surprised how much a trinket tray, vase or picture frame transforms the space around it.

5. Patterns and Textures

A great way to make a room pop without breaking the bank is with the right use of patterns and textures. They introduce depth to your furniture and an essence to the room. Soft textures and muted patterns make a room feel cosy whereas, bold patterns and shiny textures make it feel energising. Mix and match your favourite patterns and textures to get your desired room feel!

6. Get Creative

You can reuse all sorts of stuff to add to your aesthetic. Everything can have more purpose than what it was designed for. A chest of drawers could become a towel rack, mason jars could be flower pots and (with the right cushions) a stack of palettes could be a lounge suite. These are just some examples of how you can use your creativity to your advantage.

7. Swap Out What You Have

If adding a new throw to the couch or painting that dresser doesn’t do it for you, then consider swapping out your furniture and decor. Ask your friends, look at marketplaces and explore online options. The perfect piece you need to tie everything together could be closer and easier to get than you think.
