Let’s talk about bedroom interior design. Bedrooms are the place we go to rest our heads, recharge our batteries and escape into our own personal sanctuary. Since we spend so much time in our bedroom and it’s where we wake up every morning and shut down every night, the way it looks and how it’s put together should allow us to live our best lives.

This quick article uncovers what it takes to transform your bedroom into the best it can be. Let’s get started.

Create Your Desired Atmosphere with Colour

If you’ve read our other articles, you’ll know that the colour within a room creates an atmosphere. Bright, vibrant colours are stimulating and grab your attention. This is great for an engaging entertainment area but when it comes to your personal sanctuary, something more calming would be a better fit.

Try cooler, more muted colours. This will create a sense of relaxation and make it easier to switch off after a long day.

Let’s Get Down to Layout

Next up on the Ideal Bedroom Checklist is the layout. Sometimes we don’t have the luxury of enough space to play with our layout but if you have the space, use it! Change the placement of your furniture and decor until it resonates with you. Don’t have the space? Try keeping your bed in a corner, this allows you to get the valuable floor space you need to decorate your room the way you want.

If you are going for a more traditional approach to the interior of your bedroom (and have the space), make use of a symmetrical layout. This way you can balance each side of the room and use your bed as a focal point. An asymmetrical layout is ideal if your room has a unique shape.

Your Bed Makes Your Bedroom

When choosing the perfect bed for your bedroom, always consider the size of your room. Do you need king-size amounts of bed space or will a double do? Not only does a comfortable bed need to match your taste, but it also needs to match your budget. It’s a good decision to save for your ideal bed rather than save a few bucks. The extra sleep is worth it!

Your bed will be the focal point of your room. With this in mind, make sure the theme of your bed ties back to your room to complete your aesthetic. Your choice of material goes a long way in reinforcing your look and feel.

We’re all a fan of furniture that looks good but don’t forget about functionality too! There are plenty of bed options that come with built-in storage and shelving in the headboard and base alike. Having the extra storage space also makes it much easier to keep bedroom clutter down to a minimum. This helps your furniture and decor take centre stage.

Go Big with Bedding

The right pillows, mattress, duvet and sheets could be the difference between tossing and turning all night and getting a fantastic nights sleep. When it comes to choosing bedding, comfort is king because when you sleep well, you feel well!

In the pursuit of cosy sleeping, we suggest choosing linen with a high thread count and replacing your pillow anytime if your neck is feeling worse for wear. A variety of bedding also allows you to choose materials and textures that bring your theme out even more!

Don’t Look Down on Flooring

When it comes to bedroom interior design, flooring lends itself to the comfortability your bedroom creates. With this in mind, carpets are wildly popular with most bedroom designs but that’s not to say that tiled or wood flooring is not an option – with the right rug, anything is possible!

Wood flooring is fantastic but not always affordable. Depending on your budget, you could also consider laminate or vinyl flooring to achieve the same look and warmth.

Let There Be (Artificial) Light!

Natural light is beautiful but for most of us, we spend more of our time in the bedroom after the sun goes down. This doesn’t mean we can’t achieve the soft lighting that we need to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Diffused lighting isn’t too harsh on our eyes and is soothing enough to help us ease into our sheets. Try tasteful dimmable lamps or wall lights on your bedside table or dressing table. You don’t always need a ceiling light but if your ceiling is high enough, a chandelier or decorative lampshade is a stunning centrepiece.
